Trio A(1966) is often cited as the seminal work of post-modern dance. True or not, it is a provocative and challenging historical work that continues to be relevant to subsequent generations because of its physical ideas, unyielding rigor, and unusual performance tone. As a 20+ custodian of this dance, it is part of my job to make sure that individuals have the opportunity to meet and experience this work with their bodies. This workshop will offer this opportunity. I will place Trio A in time by sharing some writing about it we warm-up, I will then perform it once, and then we will dive into to learning it. My hope is to teach about a quarter of the dance and then play with witnessing/performing the work with/for each other in small groups. Performers - It is a fabulous tool for working on attention, pacing, presence, clarity, temporality, coordination. Come Play!
